This wiki has been set up by the Surrey Centre for Excellence in Professional Training and Education (SCEPTrE) to provide a space for sharing the results and experiences of a Faculty-based initiative aimed at  supporting Surrey to develop a more enquiring approach to  learning.

The purpose of the project is to stimulate interest in enquiry learning within University of Surrey's four Faculties. Twenty five colleagues have agreed to adapt a module or part of a module in the autumn so that it encourages students to engage in enquiry. Support for curriculum development is being given by Dr George Allan, a senior lecturer in the computing department at PortsmouthUniversity who has been using an enquiry-rich approach in his modules for many years.

'I want students to appreciate that every class is an appetiser.. the main course is outside the classroom' Peter Morris talking about his enquiry-rich learning approach

How enquiry permeates learning

Enquiry is the basis for all research and scholarship in the disciplines but it is also the key learning process in knowledge–rich work environments. Enquiry connects the academic, professional and social worlds of learning. The importance of productive enquiry' (being able to find out the things you need to know in order to do the things you need to do), as a means of working with the complexities and uncertainties of the modern world lies at the heart of SCEPTrE’s project. We believe that to equip students for an ever changing, infinitely complex and opportunity-filled world we need to pay particular attention to productive enquiry : the 'will to be enquiring' and the skills and capababilities to find, explore and resolve both academic and real world problems and emergent opportunities.

This was posted by one of my students on the Facebook Page I created for my EBL module. I think it is very powerful and positive encouragement of what we are all doing in terms of exploring new ways of teaching.
